Photography Exhibition: Florida Museum of Photographic Arts - Portraits of the Artists and Other Selections
The Florida Museum of Photographic Arts holds some of the best photographic exhibitions in the southern United States. Their current exhibition, Portraits of the Artists and Other Selections from the Collection of Robert and Elizabeth Sanchez looks like an amazing exhibition of a variety of photographic art from all over the world. While I haven’t seen it yet, I am aware of the Sanchez collection and recommend this exhibit.
The exhibition runs through May 15, 2010
The Florida Museum of Photographic Arts is proud to present “Portraits of the Artists and Other Selections from the Collection of Robert and Elizabeth Sanchez.” For most art collectors, collecting becomes an expression of personal vision. The collection turns into an art form itself - one that carries an obsessive force. For Robert Sanchez - who is also known as Pancho - collecting began at ten years of age with coins and baseball cards. “I progressed to surfing magazines and it evolved into photography. At 12 years old, I started taking pictures. Since I surfed at the time, I took surfing pictures.” At college, he worked in the photography lab for his work-study program. A fine arts major, he also drew and painted. When he transferred to University of Florida, he was working as a newspaper illustrator and art director. Adding to his interest in corporate law, he still pursues surfing, travel, photojournalism and - of course - collecting.
I hope to be in Florida next month and will definitely take in this exhibition if in Tampa. If you’re in the area, I suggest you do too.
As I travel, I love seeing the work of other photographers as I hope you do. If you know of a new photographic exhibition which you think the Blog should publicize, please contact me.
