Photography Exhibition: Florida Museum of Photographic Arts - Naked City

The Florida Museum of Photographic Arts holds some of the best photographic exhibitions in the southern United States. Their current exhibition Naked City: Photographs from the Vassar College's Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center is a wonderful exhibition of many major photographers of the twentieth century.

The exhibition runs through January 29, 2011.

The Florida Museum of Photographic Arts is proud to present the work of the major photographers of the twentieth century. This selection of photographic scenes of urban life comes from the distinguished collection of The Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center at Vassar College.  The exhibition is sponsored by Lissa and Charles Lyman and Ferman Motor Cars. It was curated by Mary-Kay Lombino, The Emily Hargroves Fisher '57 and Richard B. Fisher Curator and Assistant Director for Strategic Planning, Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center, Vassar College.

The exhibition features 42 iconic images of social documentary and street photography. Titled after the acclaimed 1945 book of photographs by Weegee, the exhibition includes photographs by twenty renowned photographers that favor directness, immediacy, and realism in depicting cities as varied as New York, Chicago, and New Orleans.

I hope to be in Florida later this month and will definitely take in this exhibition in Tampa. If you’re in the area, I suggest you do too.
