Ned Levi leading Wildlife Photowalk at Heinz Refuge
For photographers in the Greater Philadelphia, PA Region, who are interested in wildlife photography, I wanted to let you know, I'm leading a Photowalk in the John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge in Philadelphia, PA on Saturday, September 21st. The Refuge is on the north side of I95 just across the Interstate from Philadelphia International Airport.
All walks at the Refuge are led by volunteers (me included) working under the overall supervision of the US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), and are open to all members of the public, though children are expected to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, and are free. While some US national wildlife refuges charge a nominal fee, the USFWS charges no admission fee for the John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge.
There are never birding guarantees, however, we have seen migration movement already in the Northeast in general and at the Refuge. Mid September is usually a good time for bird migration viewing.
We'll meet in the Visitor Center at 8am to begin the walk. I'll decide on our route that morning, based on sightings the Thursday and Friday before. You can get to the Visitor Center parking lot from the Refuge's main entrance at 8601 Lindbergh Blvd. (I know the Refuge hours are listed as starting at 8:30am, but when we have a walk (Bird, Butterfly, Wildflower, Photo) scheduled for an early start, they open early for us.)
If you're a little late, you will be able to catch up with us, as the person at the front desk of the Visitor Center will know our route start, and can contact me by cell phone.
This will likely be the last Photowalk of the year at the Refuge, although according to conditions, and my schedule, I may add one in November, prior to Thanksgiving. (We do have regularly led bird walks almost every Saturday and Sunday morning at the Refuge throughout the year.)
